Aftershoot Workshop in Peru

May 30, 2024

Peru trip by Wes Shinn Photography and Film.

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Peru for a workshop led by Aftershoot. The workshop’s ultimate goal was to learn from some of the best creative photographers on the planet. While I have been a professional photographer for 20 years, I never want to be in a place where I think I know it all. In fact, that’s the exact opposite of where I want to be.

While that sounds exciting, many of my readers might be wondering what in the world is Aftershoot? Well in short Aftershoot is an AI system I have used in my workflow for processing images since it was released. I typically capture anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000 images from a wedding. That’s a lot to go through in my post-production process for editing and eventually delivering images.

Aftershoot saves an immense amount of time and it typically uses a series of advanced AI to scan through my images and select the best photos.

If I’ve captured your wedding within the last three years, your photos were selected by AI.

Continuing on to the Workshop

The workshop was held in a resort in a small city outside of Cusco, Peru. In short, it was a stunning location filled with photogenic moments at every angle.

But what I learned from the classroom settings, conversations, and shoots applying what we learned were what I think priceless for my goal and passion to always grow. I finally had the opportunity to meet some of the photographers I have followed and learned from digitally for many years.

There’s an immense amount of information I’ve learned – everything from communication to new, advanced shooting techniques that I’m eager to use.

This was my first time traveling and attending a workshop of this scope and size, so needless to say it was highly rewarding for me.

In Conclusion

I think no matter where you are or what industry you work in, it’s always important to pursue growth. While this experience helped me grow, it ultimately helped me better service all of my couples and clients. So, if the door is open and there’s an opportunity to grow, don’t wait or hesitate. I believe complacency is the enemy of success and if there’s a way to walk through the door – run toward it.
